Building Agentic AI for Enterprise: Lessons from the Trenches

Key insights from building an agentic AI platform that enables enterprise security teams to automate workflows across legacy systems.

Building AI products for enterprise is a unique challenge. Unlike consumer AI applications where you can move fast and iterate based on user feedback, enterprise AI requires a different mindset altogether.

The Enterprise AI Challenge

When we started building AI Studio at Redblock.ai, we quickly realized that enterprise security teams face a unique set of challenges:

  1. Legacy Systems Everywhere - Most enterprise environments are a mix of modern cloud services and legacy on-premise applications that don't have APIs.

  2. Strict Security Requirements - Data cannot leave the enterprise perimeter, ruling out most cloud-based AI solutions.

  3. Complex Workflows - Security operations involve multiple systems, each with its own interface and data format.

Our Approach: Agentic AI

We took an agentic approach to solving these challenges. Instead of building a monolithic AI system, we created a platform where:

  • AI Skills are reusable building blocks that can interact with any application
  • Agents combine skills to complete complex multi-step tasks
  • Workflows orchestrate multiple agents to automate end-to-end processes

Key Learnings

1. Start with the User's Problem, Not the Technology

It's tempting to build cool AI features, but what matters is solving real problems. We spent weeks shadowing security analysts to understand their daily workflows before writing any code.

2. Reliability Trumps Intelligence

Enterprise users need to trust the AI system. A simpler solution that works 99% of the time is more valuable than a sophisticated one that fails unpredictably.

3. Design for the Non-Technical User

Our no-code Agent Builder allows security teams to create automation without writing code. This democratizes AI within the organization.

What's Next

We're continuing to expand the platform's capabilities, focusing on:

  • Improved AI evaluation frameworks
  • Better handling of edge cases in legacy systems
  • More pre-built agents for common security workflows

The journey of building enterprise AI is just beginning, and I'm excited about the impact we can create.
